From the days that are gone.

A collection of regionally specific objects,
books, furniture, and art gathered during
summer wanderings along the backroads
of the Pacific Northwest. Findings examines
the raw hardpan layers of humanity and
history that lies beneath the technotopian
clouds of the present.

Tin Reflector Candle Sconce.

$ 40
 (Sold)

The core functionality of a primitive tin candle sconce, beyond simply holding a candle, lies in its distinctive reflector plate. This prominent, often oval or scalloped, tin backing serves a crucial purpose: to amplify and direct the candle's light. Its reflective surface acts as a mirror, bouncing the emitted light outwards and enhancing the overall illumination provided by a single taper candle. These types of tin lighting devices were particularly popular in early American homes, with the heyday of their craftsmanship and utility spanning from the late 18th century to the late 19th century, prior to the widespread adoption of other lighting technologies, such as gas or electricity.
