From the days that are gone.

A collection of regionally specific objects,
books, furniture, and art gathered during
summer wanderings along the backroads
of the Pacific Northwest. Findings examines
the raw hardpan layers of humanity and
history that lies beneath the technotopian
clouds of the present.

Coconut Brooms

$ 45

Coconut brooms, traditionally crafted from the fibrous leaf stalks of coconut palms bound with natural rope and paired with simple wooden handles, have their origins in tropical regions of Asia and the Pacific where coconuts are abundant. Known for their flexibility, narrow profile, and moisture-resistant properties, they were designed to sweep both tight indoor corners and outdoor debris, a multipurpose tool perfected over generations. In the Pacific Northwest, where rain and leafy gardens create persistent dust, moss, and debris, a coconut broom is handy as its fibers resist moisture while sweeping.  Although not native to the region, these brooms have been imported since the 20th century by settlers or gardeners drawn to their practicality, becoming an unexpected yet reliable tool for home and garden maintenance in the damp, leafy landscapes of the Northwest.
