 Any true Northwesterner can commiserate over the tragic loss of the Seattle Super Sonics to Okla-fucking-homa in 2008. Our only professional team to win something until the early 2000s, the Sonics claimed the NBA title in 1979 behind Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, Fred Brown, and Jack Sikma. Not that sports should matter, but this championship in many ways heralded the cultural, economic, and industrial power that Seattle was about to claim. In this 1979 official NBA yearbook, one can marvel at just how bad live-action sports photography was in the 1970s, while being transported back to the moment that changed it all.
