From the days that are gone.

A collection of regionally specific objects,
books, furniture, and art gathered during
summer wanderings along the backroads
of the Pacific Northwest. Findings examines
the raw hardpan layers of humanity and
history that lies beneath the technotopian
clouds of the present.

Ships Wheel.

The ship’s wheel, developed in the early 18th century as an improvement over the whipstaff, allowed precise control of increasingly large vessels during a period of expanding maritime trade. Beyond its practical function, it carries metaphorical weight, symbolizing human agency within complex systems and the balance between mastery and circumstance. In literature and maritime culture, the wheel embodies the interplay of skill, disciplined practice, and environmental forces, serving as a tangible emblem of guidance, responsibility, and the inherent limits of navigating unpredictable conditions. It is also an undeniably striking object, though challenging to integrate into interior design without veering into overly literal symbolism or the aesthetic of a young business founder or wistful old sailor. Perhaps it could be mounted on a barren wall, or more safely, leaned casually among other objects in a deliberately cluttered, “hoarder-chic” arrangement?
